The third shooting near the University of Texas Campus in as many weeks had police back in the area this morning after two men were shot at the Cambridge Apartments on Old Omen Road.

Tyler Police said they were dispatched to East Texas Medical Center this morning in reference to two men with non-life threatening gunshot wounds.

“The victims advised they had been at attending a dice game at 3088 Old Omen Road. The victims advised after the game they were sitting in their vehicle in the parking lot talking,” a press release stated.

The victims further told officers that an unknown black male wearing a black shirt approached their vehicle, opened the car door and began shooting them with a small handgun before he fled on foot.

Police are continuing their investigations into two other shootings in the area.

Sunday morning Tarrington Joiner, 21, of Tyler was shot at Patriot and University as he sat in his vehicle.

In that shooting police said Joiner and another man had argued with several other men at Outlaws Club on Hwy. 110 South, but left the club before the altercation became physical.

A tan Dodge Durango with large rims occupied by several black males pulled up next to Joiner's vehicle on Patriot at University and fired several rounds into Joiner's vehicle. Joiner was struck by one round that entered his chest. Joiner's friend jumped into the driver's seat and drove him immediately to the Hospital.

One week prior Tyler police responded to reported gunfire at the Cambridge Apartments and upon arrival found multiple spent shotgun shells in the parking lot.

However, police did not locate a weapon or the person responsible for the shooting.

All of the cases remain active and anyone with information is asked to call the Tyler Police Department at 903-531-1000.
