Former First Lady Laura Bush to speak

Former first lady Laura Bush will be the speaker at the Texas Rose Festival Ladies' luncheon, and Dallas businessman Ray Hunt is set to speak at the Distinguished Men's Luncheon, announced Julie Dawson, executive director of the festival association.
The luncheons will take place on Oct. 19. Tickets are now on sale.

LADIES LUNCHEON
Mrs. Bush is the wife of George W. Bush, the 43rd president of the United States. They were in the White House 2001 to 2008. Before that the Bushes lived in governor's mansion in Austin while Bush served as the governor of Texas.
She has and continues to crusade for improvements in education, health care and human rights.
As the first lady and a representative of the United States, Mrs. Bush has traveled to more than 76 countries, including Afghanistan, and has launched education and health care programs in the U.S. and abroad.
The author of the bestselling memoir, “Spoken From The Heart,” Mrs. Bush founded the Texas Book Festival and the National Book Festival in Washington D.C. As the chairwoman of the Woman's Initiative at the George W. Bush Institute, Mrs. Bush continues work on global health care innovations, empowering women in emerging democracies, education reform and supporting the men and women who have served in America's military.
Born in Midland to Jenna and Harold Welch, Mrs. Bush holds a degree in education and a master's degree in library science. She taught in public schools in Dallas, Houston and Austin and worked as a public school librarian. The Bushes are the parents of daughters, Barbara and Jenna.

Ray Hunt is chairman, president and CEO of Dallas-based Hunt Consolidated Inc., a leader in the petroleum industry. He also heads other Hunt family business interests and serves on the boards of Bessemer Securities Corp., King Ranch Inc. and PepsiCo Inc.
He has worked in the family oil business since 1958, when he labored in the oilfields. He later obtained a degree in economics from Southern Methodist University.
Hunt was appointed by President George W. Bush to the President's Intelligence Advisory Board in Washington, D.C. and by the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System to the board of directors of the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas. He currently serves on the National Petroleum Council, an advisory board to the secretary of energy,
Within the oil and gas industry, Hunt is on the board of directors of American Petroleum Institute. He has been president of Dallas Petroleum Club and Dallas Wildcat Committee. His numerous honors include the American Petroleum Institute Gold Medal for Distinguished Achievement Award and the Lifetime Achievement Award from the North Texas Energy Council. In 2007, Hunt received the Linz Award recognizing the citizen whose humanitarian efforts have had the greatest impact on Dallas.
