Storms in East Texas lead to power outages
Storms that blew through East Texas Thursday were blamed for about 1,000 people losing electricity, multiple wrecks and possibly a house fire in Lindale.

About 1,000 customers were without electrical power as a result of the Thursday storms, according to the Oncor website.

Department of Public Safety dispatch said Thursday night that troopers had worked about 14 wrecks since mid-afternoon. Several of the accidents were on Interstate 20 and included rollovers and vehicles running off the road. No serious injuries or fatalities were reported.

Charles West, Lindale fire marshal, said a structure fire in the 200 block of Shanna Terrace in Lindale Thursday evening may have been caused by a lightning strike.

West said no one was home at the time of the fire, which was contained to the attic.

No one was injured in the fire, which began after 6 p.m. Thursday.

A cold front sitting slightly west of the East Texas area was responsible for dropping more than half an inch of rain on Tyler Thursday, Brandi Richardson, of the National Weather Service in Shreveport, said.

The rainy weather pattern is expected to continue during the next few days, Ms. Richardson said.
