Fire department raising money for equipment
Staff Reports
The Gallatin Volunteer Fire Department will host a barbecue this weekend to help raise money for firefighter equipment.
The event is scheduled to start at 11 a.m. Saturday. Plates are $12 and include beef, sausage, potato salad, tea and dessert. Sandwich plates are $8 and include a sandwich, potato salad, tea and dessert. Attendees also may purchase meat by the pound.
Fire Chief George Bostock said this will be the first barbecue fundraiser the department has done in recent history.
“The community has been wanting it for quite some time,” he said. “They’re wanting it brought back. Someone came to the department and donated a barbecue pit a couple months ago … (so it’s) back by popular demand.”
He said he doesn’t know how many people to expect but hopes to have a good turnout.
All proceeds support the fire department. Specifically, Bostock said the department is working to get more rescue equipment and pay off its newest truck.
