‘Lil’ Willoughby
Graveside services for Lillie “Lil” Evelyn Willoughby, age 99, will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday Aug. 29, 2012, in Rose Hill Cemetery in Tyler with Rick Webb, chaplain, officiating. Services are under the direction of Jackson’s Burks Walker Tippet Funeral Home of Tyler.
Lil was born Aug. 18, 1913, in the Chriesman community of Burleson County to Peter Odstrcil and Frances Rose Ondrasek Odstrcil. The youngest of six children she grew up on the family farm in the beautiful Texas Hill Country, surrounded by her Czech heritage. Baptized in the Lutheran faith, she later followed her husband to the Baptist church. Married to Jesse Lee Willoughby, Humble Oil Co. took them to South, West and East Texas to work in the oil fields. In 1957, they settled in Tyler. Lil was active in the Civitans, volunteered in numerous community service groups, garden and bridge clubs. Lil moved to Longview in her 80s to live at Buckner Westminster Place where she enjoyed new friends, travel and freedom of responsibility.
Lil passed peacefully from this life on Aug. 27, 2012, at Margaret’s House in Longview. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jesse Lee Willoughby; son, Hugh Allan Willoughby; and her brothers and sisters.
She is survived by her son, Howard L. Willoughby and wife Wyvonne of Longview; granddaughters, Tasha Root and husband Ken of Diana, Mary Martha White and husband Daniel of McKinney and Amy Willoughby-Panturad of Tampa, Fla.; nine great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren; and her beloved nieces.
The family would like to thank the staff of Margaret’s House and Stephanie Dunn for the excellent care given to Miss Lil.
In lieu of flowers, they request that donations be made to Beacon Hospice, 5016 Gilmer Road, Longview, 75608; or to a charity close to your heart.
