Rusk County man gets 2 years in jail for drug case
A Rusk County man was sentenced to two years in a state jail facility and assessed a fine for delivering drugs to a confidential informant, the Rusk County District Attorney’s Office announced Wednesday.
Skkylar Sanchez, 27, of Overton, was accused of delivering more than a quarter ounce but less than five pounds of marijuana to the informant but pleaded not guilty to the offense, according to a news release.
During the trial, which took place Tuesday, the prosecution’s case focused on testimony from the informant, who was working for the Rusk County Sheriff’s Office at the time of the offense.

According to a news release, the informant did not assist in the investigation to avoid his own prosecution but because he “wanted a safer community for he and his family.”
Jurors took 15 minutes to return a guilty verdict.
On Wednesday, the prosecution presented punishment evidence, and jurors were told Sanchez had a previous conviction for evading arrest with a motor vehicle, a state jail felony.
The jury deliberated and returned with a verdict of two years in a state jail facility and a $5,000 fine. The delivery offense, a state jail felony, carried a punishment range of six to 24 months in a state jail facility. Jurors also could have assessed a fine up to $10,000.
Assistant County/District Attorney Zack Wavrusa and County/District Attorney Micheal Jimerson represented the state while Thad Davidson, of Tyler, represented Sanchez.
