Campaign kicks off with intent to raise $42,000
The Bullard Education Foundation is kicking off its fundraising campaign for the new school year with higher goals than ever before, the entity announced Monday.
Foundation members hope to raise $42,000 for the campaign, which began Monday and runs through Dec. 1.
“It's an increase over last year, so we're shooting to just continue to grow the annual campaign,” foundation President Darren Davis said. “We all feel good.
We feel like we're going to meet it.”
That's because he said the community is becoming more aware of what the foundation is doing.
In less than 36 months, more than $100,000 was awarded for innovative teaching grants; 52 students and 40 staff members were formally recognized for achievement in and out of the classroom; and 15 seniors received scholarships, according to a news release.

By citing those numbers, the foundation is trying to indicate that it's thrilled it was able to do that, Davis said.
“We're excited. … (A lot of) the grants are staying in the classroom, so (teachers) have multiple groups cycling through (and using the grant each year),” he said.
Among the grants awarded last fall are iPads to help with reading fluency and comprehension; a small animal treadmill at Bullard High School to study the effects of consistent exercise on animal muscles; Dolby Media Players at Bullard Primary School; and learning carpets for prekindergarten students.
Davis said he also talked to employees about the foundation's employee giving campaign, which has received a big backing from staff during past years.
“We're still doing the same thing, which is not a bad thing,” Davis said. “We're still able to do innovative grants and achievement recognition and scholarships. We're blessed we're able to do that.”
