Trinity Mother Frances specialty group holds course
Trinity Mother Frances Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Endoscopy and The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center will sponsor the fourth annual Gastroenterology and Hepatology Updates from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sept. 8 in Wisenbaker Conference Center at Mother Frances Hospital, 800 E. Dawson.

The course is structured for practicing gastroenterologists, hepatologists, primary care physicians, family practitioners, surgeons, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, nurses, and other health care professionals who are interested in gastrointestinal and liver diseases.

Through lecture, case presentations, and exhibits, this one-day course will provide an outline and updates of commonly encountered issues in the fields of gastroenterology and hepatology. The program also includes lunch and question-and-answer session with world-renowned specialists.

Hosted by Dr. Kai Xia, Ph.D., chief of the Department of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at Trinity Mother Frances Hospitals and Clinics, this is the fourth year the group has held a symposium.

The event will include an exhibit showcasing the latest contributions in technology, medicine and supporting information. Time for attendees to visit the exhibits has been allocated during the continental breakfast, morning refreshment break, and lunch break.

Officials said qualified participants would receive a maximum of eight AMA PRA Category 1 Credits or eight CME/CNE credit hours for completion of the course.
Upon completion of this program, participants should be able to describe and discuss the following topics: Evaluation and management of refractory gastroesophageal reflux, irritable bowel syndrome and chronic constipation; Obesity, fatty liver disease and weight-management related issues; evaluation and management of inflammatory bowel disease; management of lower GI bleeding; evaluation of hereditary GI cancer syndromes; viral hepatitis, portal hypertension and cirrhosis; commonly encountered anorectal diseases including hemorrhoids; management of pancreatitis, pancreatic mass and complicated biliary diseases.

The registration deadline is Sept. 5. Fees range from $45 for a half-day course for nurses, nurse practitioners, physician assistants and allied health professionals to $95 for full-day course registration for physicians.
