The American Association of University Women is a nationwide, 501c(3) organization that shares a commitment to educational and economic equity for women and girls. This is accomplished through advocacy, education, philanthropy, and research on both a local and nationwide basis, Tyler AAUW spokesperson Jeanelle Maland said.
At the local level, AAUW raises funds through several activities, including the annual “Holiday in the Pines” home tour and the annual “Games Day,” which provide scholarships to local high school and college students. AAUW Tyler also participates in the “Expanding Your Horizon” Program for middle school girls, which is a program that encourages young women to explore careers in the science and technology fields. The Branch also participates in the “Academic Rodeo Spelling Bee,” Ms. Maland said.
