GILMER — Jury selection in the murder trial of Sharon Anne Maxwell opens today in 115th District Court, with testimony scheduled to begin Aug. 20.

About 350 prospective jurors have been summoned for the case, which Upshur County District Attorney Billy Byrd said Sunday could require several days in the testimony phase. Jury selection begins at 9 a.m.

Mrs. Maxwell, 44, of Ore City, is charged with shooting her 10th husband, 46-year-old Gordon Lynn Maxwell, last Aug. 30. Maxwell's body was found in a burned car at the couple's Ore City area home, but an autopsy showed he died from a gunshot wound, Byrd said.

Mrs. Maxwell, who is also known by several aliases, has been in county jail since Aug. 30 although 115th District Judge Lauren Parish lowered her bond (once $500,000) to $300,000, Byrd said. Judge Parish will preside in the trial.

Gilmer attorney Matthew Patton represents Mrs. Maxwell.

Gordon Maxwell was a minister and employee of U.S. Steel in Lone Star, Byrd said.
