Ashley Furniture HomeStore will make its return to Tyler on Saturday under new ownership.
Employees were busy this past week filling the former RoomStore location with Ashley Furniture merchandise.
The Tyler store will be the 11th Ashley Furniture HomeStore for The Spencer Group, founded in 2005 by Jim Spencer and his son, Chad, based in Saltillo, Miss.
The Spencer Group plans to invest about $1 million in the Tyler expansion and create up to 40 full-time jobs, company representatives reported.
The local Ashley Furniture will be in a 36,000-square-foot showroom, next to Bed Bath & Beyond, and will have 25 employees, representatives said. Ashley also will have a 25,000-square-foot warehouse, at 1902 Brandon Drive, with 10 employees.
The Spencer Group is looking forward to getting involved with the Tyler community.
Chad Spencer, president of The Spencer Group, said the growth of the group's furniture business is due in large part to the culture within its community.
“We can have the greatest product at the best price, but if we don't serve the guest and give back to the community that supports us, we are spiritually bankrupt as a company,” he said in a prepared statement.
Families and children are at the core of the company's community efforts, he said. Through their One Parent One Dream foundation, more than 3,000 beds have been delivered to children in need.
“Our mission is to achieve excellence as we provide products and services in a way that honors God and blesses our customers and employees,” Spencer said. “And this is how we live and work.”
The Spencer Group owns 11 Ashley Furniture HomeStores in Tennessee, Kentucky, Mississippi, Alabama and Arkansas, as well as Texas with the addition of the Tyler furniture store.
Ashley Furniture HomeStore will show its Tyler customers that it is “the final price that matters,” representatives said.

From 2004 through 2010, Louis and Pat Melius operated Ashley Furniture at 5007 Old Bullard Road. But after six years with the business, they decided to revert the store back to Southiside Furniture, a business they brought to Tyler in 1982.
The Spencer Group decided to bring Ashley Furniture back to Tyler thanks to demand for such a business, Spencer said.
Ashley Furniture Industries is the largest furniture manufacturer in the United States and the No. 1 selling brand of furniture in North America, company representatives said. It was established in 1945.
Its lines include bedroom, dining room, upholstery, motion upholstery, leather, occasional tables, entertainment centers, home office, youth bedroom, recliners, lamps, accent pillows, throws, area rugs and accessories.
Growth of The Spencer Group inspired the opening of a second brand, Stash, which offers unique home furnishings, with stores in Memphis, Tenn. and Oxford, Miss.
