The condition of a Texas Department of Public Safety trooper was unknown after he was struck from behind on Friday while trying to make a traffic stop, Trooper Jean Dark said.
Trooper Christopher Nipp, 33, who was traveling north on U.S. Highway 271, made a U-turn into the opposite lane of traffic for a traffic stop, and the driver of a 2003 GMC pickup struck Nipp in the driver’s side door of the Crown Victoria as he made the turn, Trooper Dark said. Nipp was taken to Good Shepherd Hospital in Longview, and his condition is not known at this time.
The driver of the pickup was Donna Young, 64, of Gilmer, who was taken to East Texas Medical Center in Gilmer. Her condition is stable, Trooper Dark said. No citations have been issued at this time, Trooper Dark said.
