Tyler ISD misses federal Adequate Yearly Progress standards for third straight year
Tyler ISD missed the federal government's Adequate Yearly Progress standards for the third straight year.

The federal standards increased again this year and TISD's progress in reading and math did not meet them.

Some 85 percent of the district's students passed the reading/English language arts standardized test, equal to last year's performance. The federal standard was 87 percent.

Some 80 percent of TISD students passed the math standardized test, down 2 percentage points from last year. The federal standard was 83 percent.

These standards will increase until 2013-14 when 100 percent of all students are expected to pass standardized tests in these subject areas.

At the campus level, four of TISD's 27 evaluated campuses met AYP. Twenty-three missed it. Last year, 13 campuses missed AYP.

Follow TylerPaper.com and the Tyler Morning Telegraph for more details about TISD's performance as well as that of other area school districts.

To put this in perspective, statewide only 28 percent of Texas’ more than 1,200 school districts met the federal AYP standards this year. That’s down from 50 percent last year.

At the campus level, only 44 percent of the state’s more than 8,500 schools met AYP. That’s down from 66 percent last year.
