Jack student attends leadership academy
Jack Elementary School student Cameron Hamlin had the opportunity to learn more about her home state and leadership this summer during a six-day program.

Cameron, 11, traveled to the Dallas/Fort Worth area last month for Education in Action's Lone Star Leadership Academy.

The program, which involves selected students from across the state, is designed to teach children about the spirit of Texas, according to a news release.

Participants discuss what they learn, complete problem solving and decision-making simulations, use creativity and practice presentation skills in leadership groups.

They also hear about future career and internship opportunities and visit significant Texas sites, according to the news release.

Cameron was selected for the program based on her outstanding academic success, demonstrated leadership ability, a teacher nomination from Stephanie Allen, and involvement in school and community activities, according to the news release.

She is the daughter of Tonya and John Hamlin and the granddaughter of Nancy and Tony Bolton, all of Tyler. She will be a sixth-grader at Hubbard Middle School in the fall.
