Texas Department of Public Safety troopers in Van Zandt County are investigating a body discovered along Interstate 20 near the Kaufman County line Wednesday morning.

Cpl. Kaleb Bullock, with the department's Van Zandt County office, said two 911 calls were received about 7 a.m. Wednesday, reporting a corpse on the westbound side of the interstate, he said.

When troopers arrived on scene, they found a white male, believed to be around 40 years old, in flannel sleep shorts, he said. The description coincided with 911 calls received Tuesday night of a man walking down the interstate in nothing but his underwear, Bullock said.

The body was found a little more than a mile east of County Road 3908, he said.

“He was banged up pretty good,” Bullock said of the state of the body when discovered. However, he said no evidence at the scene was found to indicate the man was hit by a car, such as tire tracks or broken plastic and glass.

The victim was tentatively identified, based on tattoos, as a man from Grand Saline, though as of 3 p.m. Wednesday, family members had not officially identified the deceased, Bullock said.
