Essential Freedom, August 1
Although I often disagree with New York’s Mayor Michael Bloomberg, I found myself totally supportive of his recent comments regarding Chick-fil-A and chief executive Dan Cathy’s response when questioned about his position on marriage. Mayor Bloomberg did not agree or disagree with Cathy’s remarks, but he pointed out that people are quick to defend freedom of speech until someone says something with which they disagree. Referencing those city leaders who vowed that Chick-fil-A was not welcomed in their cities, he questioned the legality of reviewing an applicant’s religious or moral positions before issuing a business permit.

Chick-fil-A has always been a positive influence in our communities, and I hope everyone will show them support by eating in their restaurants more often.

Dan Cathy said, “We know that it (Chick-fil-A’s support of traditional marriage) might not be popular with everyone, but thank the Lord, we live in a country where we can share our values and operate on biblical principles.”

Do we?
