HENDERSON – A prisoner transport van has arrived in Henderson to take more than a dozen alleged violent street gang members to Tyler for a court appearance this afternoon.

More than 150 law enforcement agents were involved in an early-morning operation this morning in Henderson which targeted violent street gang members. More than a dozen alleged gang members are in custody in an operation that involved armored vehicles, helicopters and multiple SWAT teams, according to an agent with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

Officials say today's actions are the result of a year and a half investigation into a well-known street gang that was running drugs and guns and were involved in violent crimes. Officials from the U.S. Attorney's office are on site, along with ATF, Homeland Security, the Department of Public Safety, State Police, U.S. Marshal Service, Rusk County Sheriff's Office, Henderson Police Department, Texas Department of Criminal Justice and other agencies.

The alleged gang members will appear in federal court in Tyler today. The charges against them are in an indictment which has been sealed until after the court process begins, an official said.

TylerPaper.com will post additional updates as they become available.
