Tyler Police Investigating 2 Shootings
By TIM MONZINGO
Tyler police responded to two shootings Sunday night that authorities said may be related.
Sgt. Jason Burton with the Tyler Police Department, said officers were called to Shaw Street shortly before 10 p.m. after two people reported being shot. He said one victim was taken to East Texas Medical Center and the other to Trinity Mother Francis hospital with minor injuries.
More information on their identities and conditions was not available Sunday night.
While reviewing that incident, officers were given the location of a possible suspect, in the 200 block of Tournament Road, near the intersection with Elm Street, he said.
When officers arrived on scene shortly after 10:20 p.m., they reported gunshots breaking the silence. The Tyler Morning Telegraph reporter on scene counted three pops around that time.
Nine police vehicles, including a Tyler Independent School District officer and a constable’s car, lined up along the street until about 11:15 p.m.
At least one vehicle was searched at the intersection of Tournament Road and Elm Street, but it was unclear whether that search was related to the shooting incident.
Burton said officers took two people into custody at the Tournament Road location, but it is unclear whether they are responsible for wounding the two victims on Shaw Street.
No injuries were reported at the Tournament Road location.
