Vote Green, July 25
The runoff election for Smith County Sheriff is one of the most important local elections in quite some time. This is our opportunity to make changes in the leadership of the sheriff’s office as there is no incumbent or employee of the current administration listed on the ballot.

As the chief law enforcement officer in the county, the sheriff has a great deal of responsibility in overseeing the entire department and in managing the $25 million annual budget, which will only grow when the expanded jail opens. The best person to handle this task is Chris Green.

During all of the years Chris has served this area in law enforcement, I have not heard a single negative word about the manner in which he handled his duties. Texas game wardens are sworn peace officers just like other law enforcement officers and they go through extensive training. All of Chris’s law enforcement experience is in dealing with state and local issues, the same types of issues that the sheriff’s department most often deals with. In addition, Chris has experience operating a small business and this will prove to be very helpful in managing the personnel and budget of the department. He has many good ideas to update the department’s services for our growing county and to better serve the taxpayers, such as the use of substations in communities outside of Tyler.

Chris is someone we can count on to be prepared in times of emergency. Finally, Chris is a man of integrity who will defend our constitutional liberties against those who seek to do harm. He will make sure that his deputies and anyone else working in his department will do the same.
