East Texans To Compete For Title Of Ms. Texas Senior
East Texans are among women set to compete in the Ms. Texas Senior Pageant set for Aug. 11 in Frisco.

The pageant emphasizes healthy aging, wellness and mental well being.

"Our pageant salutes all senior women," said information from coordinator Mary Frances Hansen. "This is to enrich and empower the lives of all seniors and to promote the senior woman in all her glory. ... We are redefining the senior woman."

Among those set to take part are Jo Anne McMeans and Carol Swanson, both of Tyler, and Marilyn Johnston of Gladewater.

The East Texas contestants, who call themselves "The Tyler Roses," recently took part in a patriotic event at Stepping Stone School in which they portrayed influential women in American history, said information from Mrs. McMeans.

Contestants in the pageant will be judged on interview, evening gown and philosophy of life and talent.

The pageant will take place at the Embassy Suites Hotel, 7600 John Hammons Drive, Frisco. Ceremonies begin at 1 p.m.

The winner will represent Texas in the Ms. Senior America pageant in Atlantic City, N.J., in October, the announcement said.
