Tyler AIDS Service Brings Back Dancing With Stars Fundraiser
Staff Reports

Tyler AIDS Services announced Friday the participants of this year's Dancing with the Tyler Stars, an annual event that raises money for the agency.

Dancers are: Shelby Burkett, owner of Mary V's by Shelby; Mechele Agbayani Mills, chief executive officer/president of Better Business Bureau-Central East Texas; Susan Waller, owner of Waller Broadcasting; John Feliciano, vice president of Feliciano Financial Group; Skip Ogle, Tyler director of public relations and government affairs at Suddenlink; Gary Wesson, of Beall's Department Store.

Choreographer Sal Landeros will introduce this year's dancers to new Latin dances.

“I enjoy moving out of my comfort zone and this certainly pushes me out of it,” Ms. Burkett said. “This is also a way for me to give to the community and to assist Tyler AIDS Services in providing service to our community.”

TAS was established in 1990 as a resource for those who are HIV-positive.

“Tyler AIDS Services serves a 35-county area but the majority of clients come from 14 counties surrounding Tyler,” said Jeanette Deas Calhoun, executive director at TAS.

“I am excited about this event. The proceeds will allow Tyler AIDS Services to fulfill its mission and continue tits programmatic thrusts.”

The event will be held at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 22 at Villa de Felicita, 7891 State Highway 110 North. Proceeds from the event help the agency continue to provide testing, case management, prevention education, emergency assistance and operate a food pantry.
