East Texas Center For Independent Living Hosts Annual Americans With Disabilities Act Update
East Texas Center for Independent Living, in conjunction with the Tyler Area Builders Association, will host its annual Americans with Disabilities Act Update in Tyler.
The free event will be held from 8:30 a.m. to noon Thursday at the East Texas Center for Independent Living (ETCIL) offices at 4713 Troup Highway.
The informative seminar is geared toward commercial/residential builders, developers, remodel contractors, architects, interior designers, Realtors, local officials and business owners. Guests are welcome to come and go for the various speaker segments, organizers said. The timeline of the event is:
8:30 to 8:45 a.m., Laura Mattheis, executive director of ETCIL, welcome remarks;
8:45 to 9 a.m., Billie Holloway, ETCIL board member, personal interest story;
9 to 10:15 a.m., Sharon Fisher Roberts, J.D., Title II and II updates;
10:30 to 11 a.m., Michael Barham, of Barham Architects LLC, Update on ADA design requirements;
11 to 11:15 a.m., Michael Wilson, Tyler Development Services director, Local compliance standards;

The East Texas Center for Independent Living, along with the East Texas Builders Association and East Texas Aging & Disability Resource Center, will also host a similar event from 8:30 a.m. to noon Tuesday at the East Texas Builders Association Event Center, at 2023 Alpine Road in Longview. Speakers are the same except for Barham, who will be replaced by Skip Whittle, city of Longview inspector; and Wilson, who will be replaced with Karen Holt, housing navigator.
