Jacksonville Teacher Attends UT Institute
A Jacksonville teacher recently joined outstanding teachers from across the state at "Shaping the American Republic to 1877," an institute sponsored by Humanities Texas and The University of Texas at San Antonio.

Laura Reeves, who teaches U.S. history at Jacksonville Middle School, attended the four-day conference where more than 40 teachers sat in on lectures and participated in small-group workshops.

"I attended the institute to increase my knowledge of U.S. history and learn about resources that will get my students more involved," Ms. Reeves said, according to a news release about the program.

The San Antonio program was one in a series of four summer institutes held throughout June at major Texas universities.

Other participating institutions included The University of Texas at Brownsville, Southern Methodist University and the University of Houston, according to the news release.
