Snag a good deal this weekend when Tyler Parks and Recreation rolls out its fourth annual Christmas in July Arts and Crafts Fair at the Tyler Rose Garden Center, 420 Rose Park Drive.

The event, set for 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday; and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, is expected to feature 57 booths, offering a variety of fun items for sale, organizers said.

“There's going to be a ton of stuff for sale,” Special Events Manager Debbie Isham said. “We are sold out of space — this is the first year we've had to turn any away.”

Booths featured at the event are expected to be overflowing in an elaborate display of handmade items that include crafts, jewelry, stained glass, wood crafts, metal art, knives, goat milk soap, photography and mixed media art.

A variety of tasty treats will be available for purchase through Gabi's Gourmet, including homemade breads, soups and even gumbo.

About 2,000 people attended last year's pre-holiday fair, and organizers predict another hefty turnout for the weekend.

“We have about 20 new vendors this year,” Ms. Isham said. “People can come after church and get lunch. If they come early, they can have breakfast.”

Live entertainment also is planned, including surprise afternoon visits from the jolly old elf.

“Santa was on vacation in Tyler this year,” she teased, noting St. Nick is expected to stop in between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Saturday and 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday.

For a small donation, visitors can vie for an opportunity to land a gift basket, valued at about $75 and loaded with handmade goodies.

Tickets can be purchased for $5 each, or five for $20, with all proceeds benefiting free programs offered by Tyler Parks and Recreation, including the Summer Playground Program, Movies in the Park and Senior Center activities.

Shoppers also can take advantage of touring Tyler's famed Rose Garden, which will be open for visitors.
The garden features the largest public collection of roses in the United States with 32,000 bushes and 600 cultivars.
