Almost a year after the Teen Mania Ministries Honor Academy redesigned their controversial event, ESOAL, and renamed it to The PEARL, the organization is suspending the program indefinitely.
“Hundred of alumni have contacted us and are very sad to see the event go,” said Cindy Mallette, communications director for Teen Mania Ministries.
A letter written to the staff, interns and alumni of the organization cites media scrutiny as the cause of the suspension.
“While we are sad to have to take this step, we are confident that the creativity and passion embodied by the HA leadership and staff will mean those lessons learned through ESOAL and PEARL will still be taught,” reads the letter. “We don’t know what shape that will take, but we are confident that with this change will come great new opportunities to seek the Lord and His will.”
