Vote For Green, July 11
In response to a recent letter in regard to the Smith County Sheriff run-off election, the writer said in defense of Smith County sheriff candidate Larry Smith’s experience and training outside of Texas “major universities and businesses seek people who have experience and/or training outside of their entity... to bring in new ideas and practices and to open up avenues of collaboration with similar entities.”
In reality, this is just a trendy way of doing things simply for the sake of saying “we went outside of the state to find someone.” That’s it. New ideas, practices, and collaborations can and do happen with entities in our own backyards. Add to that, the experience and the hiring of locally trained people and it becomes a plus for the area’s economy. Green will add fresh prospective to the job.
I know Chris Green personally, and I can, without reservation, say that his directive to “give back to the people of Smith County” is a true and sincere motivation for being sheriff. There is no one who will work more diligently to protect and serve the great East Texas communities of Smith County as Sheriff. Chris has worked very hard in his run for sheriff and because he does know the people of the county, has many years of experience as a law-enforcement officer in Smith County, and desires to give back to those who gave to him, I whole-heartedly support Chris Green for Smith County sheriff.
