Back To Business At Whitehouse YMCA After Car Hits Building

The Whitehouse YMCA is returning to regular business today after a vehicle hit the building.
The incident occurred shortly after 8 a.m. today at the facility on Terry Street.
Stuart Gilpin, CEO of the Tyler and Whitehouse YMCA, said a senior member was coming to the facility for exercise when she went through the fence of the playground and hit the gym doors on the side of the building.
According to witnesses, the woman’s foot may have slipped from the brake to the accelerator.
Gilpin said there was damage to the playground fence, and tomato plants were destroyed. The YMCA will also have to replace the gym doors and complete some drywall work, he said. However, all damage was minor and no one was injured.
Gilpin said the driver was able to drive home, and the facility schedule has not changed.
“It’s just a blessing that no one was hurt. We’re just going on with business as usual,” he said.
