Vote For Smith, July 1
In a June 7 Tyler Morning Telegraph article, sheriff candidate Chris Green’s campaign admitted he composed a list of allegations about his opponent, Larry Smith. Green’s campaign stated their candidate constructed the list “out of frustration” and proceeded to point fingers at those seeking to hold Green accountable for his fabrications.

Serious character questions arise about a candidate who seeks to destroy the reputation of his opponent, and when caught red-handed, seeks to destroy those holding him accountable. No matter how much his campaign cries “foul” because they don’t like being held accountable, Green’s actions brought trouble on himself. He made the false claims about Larry Smith’s church life and professional record — claims easily disproved by evidence such as official court records. Why would a candidate for sheriff take such reckless actions?

Our criminal justice system is built on a process of gathering evidence about the facts of a case in order to get to the truth. Prosecutors depend on law enforcement to conduct investigations with the highest level of integrity — both in professional conduct and in evidence gathering. The last thing Smith County needs is a sheriff who plays fast and loose with facts. Rumor and hearsay are not considered evidence in a court of law.

Please join me in supporting Larry Smith for Smith County sheriff.
