Robber Breaks Into Car Trunk Stealing Purses

Two female joggers got a surprise when they returned to their car Tuesday morning and found the rear window glass broken out and their purses gone.

Tyler police spokesman Don Martin said the two women parked in the parking area on Donnybrook Avenue on Rose Rudman Trail just north of Shiloh Road.

“They pulled in, put their purses in the trunk, locked the car and did everything right,” he said.

Martin said when the women returned they found the back glass broken out and thought the person may have stolen a gym bag in the backseat, but it was still in the vehicle.

He said the burglar popped the trunk lock inside the vehicle and gained access to the trunk, where the women placed their purses.

The women immediately contacted their banks, but unfortunately one of the cards had been used at an Exxon station on the North-Northwest Loop 323, he said.

“I have spoken with some detectives and it looks like we have had several car burglaries at the park and in the neighborhoods adjoining the park,” he said.

Martin said the best thing is to put items in the trunk, but if possible leave any valuables at home.
