LakeFest Set For Saturday At Lake Tyler
By KELLY GOOCH

Residents are invited to Lake Tyler this weekend for a day filled with contests and summer fun.
LakeFest, an event hosted by the Whitehouse Area Chamber of Commerce, is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday at Concession No. 2 park at Lake Tyler, off McElroy Road.
The Concession No. 2 boat ramp will be closed for the event, which features live entertainment, mini dog races, barbecue cookoff, homemade boat race, washer tournament, car show, boat show by Plano Marine, boat rides, margarita contest and helicopter rides, among other things.
A sand sculptor is scheduled from South Padre Island to build a sand castle, and fireworks should be visible from the event area that night, chamber president Phil Rogers said.
Honeybrowne band will headline the event with live music.
Admission is free, but there is a registration fee for the barbecue contest. Donation jars also will be placed at different vendors.
Proceeds will go to the Philadelphia Blessing food pantry in Whitehouse as well as the Tyler Type One Diabetes Foundation.
"The purpose for the event is to hopefully generate some money for the nonprofits," Rogers said. "The way it started, we have had great community support from Whitehouse. We've done some great fundraisers and this is just something we would like to give back to the community."
The Whitehouse chamber typically has a summer festival in the city park with fireworks and vendors, he said, but this will be the first time the event has been on the lake.
Rogers said those who want a free vendor spot must be a chamber member or sign up to become a member.
