HENDERSON -- The little buck that has caught the attention of animal lovers across East Texas now has a name -- John Deer.

John Deer, a 2- to 4-week-old buck hit by a car earlier this week, is being moved to a place in Henderson where he will be rehabilitated.

Henderson veterinarian Mary Evelyn Points said John Deer underwent surgery late Thursday afternoon and the operation was successful.

"We really are pleased with everything at this point," she said.

Dr. Points said the buck would now be called John Deer.

"I'm glad there are people out there who care about this little guy," she said.

Readers of the

and TylerPaper.com voted on several names and John Deer was the name chosen.

Other name suggestions included Bambi, Lucky, Hope, Spot, Fonzie, Pippie and many more.

The Tyler Paper will continue to follow John Deer's progress and bring updates as they are warranted.
