Cookie Store Celebrates 35th Anniversary
Great American Cookies in Tyler is celebrating the chain’s 35th anniversary by cooking up a 645-pound super cookie cake to offer customers while raising money for veterans.

From 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, customers are invited to have a free slice of the 16-by-10.66-foot cookie cake in exchange for donations to Country for our Country, a local nonprofit organization that benefits families of wounded and deceased military veterans.

The local event is being held to raise funds, say thanks to its customers and celebrate the international chain’s anniversary, as well as try to set a world record for the “world’s largest Double Doozie Cookie Cake” made by Great American Cookies, according to company representatives.
The first Great American Cookies store opened in 1977 in Atlanta and now has stores in mall-based locations across the country, as well as stores in Bahrain, Chile, Guam, Mexico, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.

Bryan Selden, of Tyler, has been a franchisee of the chain for about 25 years and has several locations, including the one in Broadway Square Mall.

On Saturday, Mayor Barbara Bass and representatives of the Tyler Area Chamber of Commerce will be at the local store to join in the celebration.
