A parolee from the Texas Department of Criminal Justice is back behind bars after he impregnated a 14-year-old girl just months after being released from prison.

Anderson County Sheriff Gregg Taylor said Willis Desmond Carwell, 31, has been arrested on a first-degree felony count of aggravated sexual assault of a child.

Taylor said his department received a call from Palestine Regional Medical Center physicians after the teen's parents took the girl in to be treated for what they believed was a urinary tract infection.

“During the exam they discovered the girl was in fact pregnant,” he said.

Taylor said the girl's mother was an acquaintance of Carwell, but he was not sure of the exact type of relationship.

Taylor added that beginning in April, Carwell and the teen are believed to have had sex multiple times when he went to the teen's home in the Neches area.

“It's a sad case of a 31-year-old taking advantage of a child. Under the law she can't even have consensual sex because she is underage,” he said. “Actually it's just plain disgusting.”

Taylor said Carwell was now being held on a blue warrant for violating his parole terms and will likely be returned to prison, where he will await the new charges.

“He will either be found guilty or enter a guilty plea. I would guess he would probably plea out, because it's kind of hard to say he didn't do it since we do have DNA evidence,” he said.
