According to a press release, police were dispatched to Mother Frances Hospital for a reported gunshot wound.
Officers said Kertral Damon Murphy, 18, stated he was shot somewhere on West Gentry Parkway, but family members at the hospital indicated that Murphy was at a party somewhere in the area around West Erwin Street and Glenwood Avenue prior to the shooting.
The press release stated officers searched both areas for evidence and any witnesses but failed to locate any leads.
Murphy was transported to the hospital by an unknown black male driving possibly a tan or gold colored vehicle with tinted windows and that this subject left the hospital after Murphy exited the vehicle.
The press release stated Murphy was shot one time in the lower back and is currently in surgery for what is believed to be a non-life threatening injury.
The Tyler Police Department is currently still investigating the shooting and seeking any information regarding the location of the shooting and the identity of the person who dropped off the victim at the hospital.
Anyone with information is urged to contact police at 903-531-1000 or through the Tyler Crimestoppers at 903-597-2833.
