Harold “Pete” Reed Portwood
Services for Harold “Pete” Reed Portwood, 80, of Whitehouse, will be held at Stewart Family Funeral Home on Tuesday, April 10, 2012, at 11 a.m. with the Revs. Mike Cline and Benny Portwood officiating. Interment will be at Walnut Grove Cemetery in the Walnut Grove Community of Whitehouse under the direction of Stewart Family Funeral Home.
Pete peacefully went to be with the Lord surrounded by his loving family on April 4, 2012, at 8:59 p.m. at Hospice of East Texas after a lengthy battle with Multiple System Atrophy.
Mr. Portwood was born on May 5, 1931, to the late Harrison Reed Portwood and Annie Gail Agnew Portwood in Troup. He served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany during the Korean War. He was a Mason, a Shriner and charter member of the Sharon Temple Motor Corps, and a lifetime member of Walnut Grove United Methodist Church where he served on numerous committees.

Pete was the business manager of King Chevrolet in downtown Tyler for more than 40 years. He loved to travel and spent many years traveling with his wife in Europe and enjoyed RVing throughout the U.S. He loved the outdoors and spent time cooking, gardening, splitting wood, woodworking and building. He also loved spending time with family and friends and playing practical jokes.
Pete was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Bettie Jo Bradshaw.

He is survived by his wife and best friend of 36 years, Annette Portwood; daughter, Mona Gail Odom and husband James “Ted” Odom III, of Frisco; daughter, Terry Leigh Turman, of Fort Worth; sister, Jane Cooper, of Tyler; brother, Bill Portwood, of Whitehouse; grandchildren, James Odom IV, of California, Julie Odom Lindsey and husband Chris Lindsey, of Tyler, Philip Turman and wife Amy Turman, of Aledo, Russell Turman, of Dallas and Jeffrey Turman, of Montana; great-grandchildren, Zakery Mammino Odom, of New Hampshire, Emma Lindsey and Olivia Lindsey, of Tyler and Hunter Turman, of Aledo; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Pallbearers will be Leo “Brad” Bradshaw III, Wesley Lindsey, Bob Thompson, Bob Hagan, Ronald Hall and Mac Norman.
Honorary pallbearers will be Clarence Miller, John Rader and Norris Buie.
Visitation is scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday, April 9, 2012, at Stewart Family Funeral Home, 7525 Old Jacksonville Highway in Tyler.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Walnut Grove United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 1433, Whitehouse, 75791; or The Hospice of East Texas Foundation, 4111 University Dr., Tyler, 75701.
Honorary pallbearers will be Clarence Miller, John Rader and Norris Buie.
