Mrs. Smith passed away on Monday, March 5, 2012, in Whitehouse.
She was born Aug. 17, 1910, in Leesville, La., to the late George and Mary Jackson and was preceded in death by her sister, Faye Kilsby, and a brother, the Rev Cecil Jackson. She had lived in East Texas the past 75 years, having moved here from Frankston where she graduated from high school, and years later she acquired a degree from TJC as a medical assistant. She worked at Hannah’s Fabric Store and retired when she married, after that she spent many years volunteering at Mother Frances Hospital in the gift shop four days a week.
In her younger years she actively participated in church choir and teaching Sunday school for many churches in the Tyler/Whitehouse area, and was Colonial Hills Baptist Church oldest member. She was preceded in death by two husbands, George Wimberly and Leonard Smith, and a grandchild, Kay Smith.
She is survived by five children, Billie Wimberly Pruett, Charles Smith, Linda Smith McGlathery, Patsy Smith Goodman and Tim Smith and their spouses; 13 grandchildren, George Pruett, Phillip Pruett, Ann Pruett Huey, Jonathan Ray, Jason Ray, Stacy Ray, Charlann Griffin, Darryl Smith, Brandy Chavirrias, Amanda Smith, Carey McGlathery, Scott McGlathery and David McGlathery Jr. She is also survived by many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
We wish to thank all the people from Medical Center Home Health, The Hospice of East Texas and Caring Companions, and our Sunday school class from Colonial Hills Baptist, especially Madeline Wells, who have helped us these last few years.
Visitation will be from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
