Birth Control Controversy Not About Religion, Feb. 22
In his letter which appeared in Sunday’s Tyler Paper, Blake Bailey cited some excellent points concerning the so-called wall of separation between church and state. He wrote about Thomas Jefferson’s comments and Supreme Court opinions.
Somehow, though, Mr. Bailey overlooked a simple fact: the discussion concerning contraception isn’t about its moral basis. It’s about a president governing by mandate and fiat. How can President Obama dictate the morals of contraception, the content of private contracts, and forcing the American public to buy or use specific products?
The wall between church and state may well exist. Is that wall keeping something out, or keeping something in?
No one wants to be governed by presidential fiat (a new name for dictatorship.) Where’s the Constitution? That’s America’s rule book.
