Tyler police continued searching Tuesday for a man who stabbed an East Texas Medical Center nurse late Monday, while the hospital announced it planned to beef up security.
Tyler police spokesman Doyle Lynch said the employee, whose name had not been released, was leaving work through the hospital's front entrance Monday night when a black male accosted her, stole her purse and stabbed her.
The attack happened about three weeks after a 63-year-old woman had her arm broken during a robbery outside the hospital.
The woman was leaving the parking garage at the east side of the hospital's campus when someone threatened her with a weapon and stole her purse.
The victim of the January robbery described the attacker as a black man, about 5 feet 9 inches tall who wore dark clothing.
Lynch said the most recent attack seems to have been committed by a black male, about 5 feet 8 inches tall, weighing between 140 and 150 pounds. He was wearing a “black hooded coat, red shirt, dark pants and tennis shoes,” and had a shaved head.

Lynch said officers are still investigating the most recent incident and it is unclear if the two robberies are related.
In a statement issued by the hospital, spokeswoman Rebecca Berkley said an increase in security forces at the facility is planned.
“With recent events, the security department has also evaluated on-campus security associated with cameras and lighting,” the statement reads. “To that end, we have made improvements to our overall system and will continue to upgrade our security technology.”
Video footage of both attacks has been released from cameras on the hospital's campus, according to the release.
