Sponsorships Open In Komen Race For Cure
Sponsorship opportunities for the 2012 Komen Tyler Race for the Cure are now available. The local presenting sponsor is the Tyler Morning Telegraph.

“As we embark on the 14th Annual Race for the Cure, we want to recognize the continued support of our local community. The Tyler Paper, Tyler firefighters, city of Tyler, Smith County, Tyler Police Department … all support our Race for the Cure and our affiliate throughout the year,” said Jayme Fitzpatrick and Kristen Eargle, 2012 race co-chairwomen, in a statement. “The race only happens because of our sponsors, supporters and race participants. It is because of the race that the Komen Tyler affiliate can continue to provide life saving funding to women in our community.”

Sponsor gifts help underwrite race expenses and, along with entry fees and donations from race participants, go directly toward funding breast cancer services and research.

This year’s race will be May 12 at Bergfeld Park. The Komen Tyler Race is the largest 5K event in Tyler. The 2011 race made a net profit of $286,000.

Seventy-five percent of funds raised stay in East Texas to support education and screening programs and 25 percent is contributed to the Komen National Research grants program. Next to the United States government, Komen is the largest private breast cancer research funder in the world. A Komen grant has touched every major breast cancer breakthrough and major scientist in the past 28 years.
