The Magills, Tyler All-Star Band To Perform At Annual East Texas Auto & Cycle Show

Visitors to this weekend’s Auto & Cycle Show will get a chance to taste a bit of Tyler’s rock and roll history as well as the vocal stylings of The Magills when the show roars into town next week.
Matt and Megan Magill – who two years ago relocated to Tyler from New York City – combine all-original music in an Americana/Rockabilly style with personal stories. Both Matt and Megan Magill are veterans of the New York theatre scene, having met while working on a production of the rock opera “Tommy.”
The Magills now combine stories about their struggles and experiences with music reminiscent of the likes of Elvis and Johnny Cash.
The Magills will perform at noon on Saturday.

The Tyler All-Star Band will take the stage at 1 p.m. on Sunday, giving audiences a chance to see and hear some of Tyler’s most enduring musicians, including Robin Hood Brians, Ronnie Weiss, Larry Stanley, Dave Stanley and Ronny Anderson.
Brians has made quite a name for himself over the years, largely from the relative Who’s Who of names who recorded at his Tyler-based studio.
Local bands such as Mouse & The Traps recorded there, as did several huge national acts including John Fred & His Playboy Band (their song “Judy in Disguise,” recorded at Robin Hood Studios managed to knock The Beatles from their No. 1 spot on the Billboard chart), Ike and Tina Turner, James Brown and ZZ Top.

Weiss, the eponymous “Mouse” of Mouse & The Traps, will reunite with his Traps bandmate, Dave Stanley for the concert. The Traps were most active during the late ’60s, recording several records and their songs “A Public Execution” and “Maid of Sugar-Maid of Spice” became regional hits. Weiss’ vocal prowess and style was often compared to that of Bob Dylan.
The Traps’ lineup also included known blues guitarist Bugs Henderson who still makes occasional stops in Tyler.
Admission to the performances is $10 at the door. Children age 12 and under receive free admission. The East Texas Auto & Cycle Show is held at Harvey Convention Center, 2000 W. Front St. in Tyler.
