Activist Headlines Black History Program
The Rev. Kyev Tatum, a civil rights activist, will give the keynote address at this year’s Citywide Black History Program on Feb. 25.
The annual event is sponsored by the African American Cultural Events Committee. It is set for 7 p.m. at Rose Garden Center, 420 S. Rose Park Drive, Tyler.
The Rev. Tatum is president and CEO of Urban Public, a consulting firm that focuses on urban education, public policy and community development issues. He has promoted the causes of civil rights, human rights and development in traditionally disadvantaged and underserved communities.

A resident of Fort Worth, Rev. Tatum also heads the Fort Worth/Tarrant County chapter of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference and serves on the Texas Interagency Council for the Homeless, an advisory committee to the Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs.
He is a graduate of The University of North Texas.
Tickets to the program cost $20 for adults and $10 for children. Sponsorships range from $25 to $3,000 and can include recognition in the program and up to three reserved tables, organizers said.
The Black History Program is an annual observance held during Black History Month.

Money raised will help fund scholarships awarded to Tyler area students and sickle cell research and awareness, organizers said.
