Timing Is Wrong For TISD Bond Election, Feb. 10
Here we go again. Just days after paying our property taxes on Jan. 31, we get hit with headlines in the Tyler Morning Telegraph concerning a new TISD bond election. And the bond election may be held at the same time that we go to the polls to decide if President Barack Obama will be reelected as our president. I find this rather ironic.
Superintendent Dr. Randy Reid says we need to go along with their plan because it makes sense. What Dr. Reid needs is to study our taxing situation in Smith County and find out that we have some of the highest property taxes in the nation. No, the new plan does not make sense.
Also there has been information countrywide that new schools do not improve children’s capacity to learn. And from what I’ve been reading, the children in Tyler are not scoring very high on testing. I would like to see Dr. Reid drop all of these fancy plans and concentrate on educating the children.
Most of us folks in Tyler do not have an income of $180,000. As a matter of fact there are many people hurting badly and are barely holding on to their houses. The wonderful ability to have the American dream and own a home is becoming a thing of the past. People are selling their houses and renting to get away from their tax burden. That has happened to two of my friends.
Also I read in the paper today that TISD is holding elections for board members shortly. We need some people who think about the taxpayers for a change.
