Henderson County Sheriff Investigates Hit-And-Run That Left One Dead

Henderson County Sheriff’s officials are working with highway patrol to further investigate a hit and run incident that left one man dead and a teenager behind bars.

The hit and run occurred about 9 p.m. Thursday near the Leagueville store on Farm-to-Market Road 317.

Officials believe it started in the parking lot when Jonathon McRae, a 19 or 20-year-old from Henderson County, got into some type of argument with John Forester, 17, of Athens, someone he knew and was likely friends with, Henderson County Sheriff Ray Nutt said.

They got into “we think some type of argument, and (McRae) grabbed hold of the truck (Forester was driving), and Forester drove off,” he said. “He drug him for just a short distance, and (McRae) fell off of the truck and got run over by (Forester’s) vehicle.”

McRae was pronounced dead by Precinct 3 Justice of the Peace Judge Sue Starnes, and his body was sent to Dallas for an autopsy.

Forester remained in the Henderson County Jail Friday night on a $125,000 bond for accident involving serious bodily injury, a third-degree felony.

At this point, Nutt said officials believe it was an accident, but the investigation is ongoing.
