Animal cruelty charges will be filed as soon as the owner of 10 mistreated animals found near Cayuga is identified, Anderson County Sheriff Greg Taylor said.
Six starving, very poorly malnourished horses, four donkeys and the carcass of a horse were located on property on County Road 2608 by deputies investigating a tip, Taylor said.
The deputies served a seizure warrant issued by Judge James Westley.
Law officers believe the owner placed the animals on the leased land but did not provide hay or other food.
A disposition to determine ownership of the mistreated animals is scheduled at 2 p.m. Friday before Westley.
Taylor expects that ownership of the animals will be awarded to an animal rescue group.
