Vickery not seeking re-election to TISD board
Ron Vickery, Tyler ISD Trustee for District 7, announced today he will not seek re-election to a fourth term on the TISD Board of Trustees. His term ends in May.

“It is hard to believe nine years have passed since I first stepped into this position in our community,” Vickery said in a prepared statement. “Even during the hard times, it has been a tremendous joy in my life to serve on the school board, and I’ve grown to love Tyler in a way I would have never understood without working so closely with the hard-working teachers, administrators and great students of TISD.

“It is a bittersweet decision for me to not run again, but I know the time is right for me to step aside,” Vickery said. “I want to say thank you to Tyler and everyone who supported me for nine straight years, but for now, my work and my family are where I want to focus my time.”

Vickery was first elected to the District 7 position in 2003, and re-elected in 2006 and 2009. He served as board vice president in 2007-08 and board president from 2008-11.
