UPDATE: Firefighters Douse Blaze At Woodlands Apartments; No Injuries

UPDATE: 6:12 p.m.
Crews from the Tyler Fire Department responded to a two-alarm fire Wednesday afternoon at an apartment on Old Grande Avenue.

A ladder truck and four engines arrived at the Woodlands apartments in the 400 block of Old Grande Ave. around 4:25 p.m. after residents called them about the fire, according to a news release issued by the fire department.

The fire apparently was started when a plastic bag in contact with an exposed light bulb in a coat closet caught fire, Fire Marshal Paul Findley said. The flames burned in the upper part of the closet, causing some fire damage, he said.

The blaze did not spread into the attic or other parts of the building, though smoke damaged the entire unit.

Residents attempted to extinguish the fire with a hand-held fire extinguisher, but could not douse all the flames, Findley said.

The fire was out by 4:41 p.m.
