Three Illegal Aliens Sentenced
Three individuals received sentences on Tuesday in the United States District Court, Eastern District of Texas because of immigration violations.


Humberto Oliveros-Contreras
Oliveros, 35, of Jimenez, Zacatecas, Mexico, received almost two years in prison from U.S. Judge Michael Schneider after he pleaded guilty on June 28 to being a criminal alien unlawfully present in the United States after having previously deported, according to a news release from the Eastern District of Texas.

According to information presented in court, Oliveros admitted to being a Mexican national who had been deported to Mexico after convictions for possession of a controlled substance and driving while intoxicated in 2005. On June 10, 2009, Oliveros was deported to Mexico, and then reentered the United States illegally.

On April 7, immigration agents in Rusk County found Oliveros after he had been arrested and convicted in Rusk County of driving while intoxicated, according to the press release.


Cruz Alonso Amaya-Bonilla
Schneider sentenced Amaya, 38, a Honduras citizen, to 3 1/2 years in federal prison after he pleaded guilty on Sept. 20 to being a criminal alien found unlawfully present in the United States, according to the release.

According to information presented in court, Amaya admitted to being a Honduran national who had been deported to Honduras after being convicted of gross sexual assault in the state of Maine on Feb. 20, 2002.

On Oct. 10, 2002, Amaya was deported to Honduras and then reentered the United States illegally. On July 7, immigration agents in Wood County found Amaya after he was arrested for traffic violations by the Texas Department of Public Safety in that county on June 28, the press release stated.


Pedro Gallegos-Perez
Gallegos, 38, a citizen of Mexico, received a 10-month sentence from Schneider after he pleaded guilty on Sept. 20 to being a criminal alien found unlawfully present in the United States, the news release stated.

According to information presented in court, Gallegos admitted to being a Mexican national who had been deported to Mexico after a conviction for possession of a controlled substance in 2006.

On Feb. 26, 2008, Gallegos was deported to Mexico and then reentered the United States illegally, according to the news release. On July 6, 2011, immigration agents found Gallegos in Smith County, after being arrested on April 26 for failing to identify himself and giving false information.

The defendants will be deported following the completion of their federal prison sentences.

These cases were investigated by state authorities in Rusk County, Van Zandt County and Smith County, Texas and Department of Homeland Security. Assistant U.S. Attorney Allen Hurst prosecuted the cases.
