DAR Essay Winners To Be Honored At Tea
Mary Tyler Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, will hold its George Washington Tea at 2 p.m., Feb. 14, at Willow Brook Country Club.

The winners and participants of the DAR Good Citizens Contest, American History Essay Contest and the Christopher Columbus Essay Contest will be presented, according to the announcement.

Guests may attend but reservations are necessary by calling Susan Newton, at 903-894-6873 by Thursday.

Pam Burton will announce winners of the American History Essay Contest. Students in grade five through eight wrote on “Young America Takes A Stand, The War of 1812.”

The winners are Hannah Saunders, daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Scott Saunders. eighth grade, Lindale Junior High; Jacob Vierkant, son of Dr. & Mrs. Matt Vierkant, seventh grade, homeschooled; Valerie Vierkant, daughter of Dr. & Mrs. Matt Vierkant, fifth grade, homeschooled.

Anna Lee will honor the winners of Christopher Columbus Contest. Students in grades nine through 12 wrote on “Christopher Columbus in His Own Time and Today.”

The winner is Madeline Burton of Lindale, daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Michael Burton.

Mary Ruth Greenwell, Annette Maddox and June Everheart, will present DAR Good Citizen awards which includes scholarships, pins and certificates. The winner will receive a $500 scholarship and the others a $100 scholarship for participating.

Participants were Norma Gonzales of Whitehouse High School, daughter of Itzmel and Norma Gonzales; Tanner Hodge of Bullard High School; son of Ms. Terra Hodge; Ella Renee Lowry of All Saints Episcopal School; daughter of Drs. Richard and Lisa Lowry; Megha Patel of Winona High School, daughter of Kailash and Jana Patel; Rachel Ann Powers of Lindale, daughter of Ed and Jennifer Powers; Emily Elizabeth Putman, Grace Community, daughter of Jerry and Martha Putman; and Ryan Ratliff, Chapel Hill High School, son of Randy and Lisa Ratliff.
