Candidate Forum Set Tonight In Jacksonville
By KELLY GOOCH

Staff Writer

Cherokee County voters can get to know their Republican candidates tonight during a forum at Jacksonville College.

The Cherokee County Republican Club will host The East Texas Candidate Forum at 6:30 p.m. in Buckner Chapel, 105 BJ Albritton Drive.

Club President Danny Morris said last week about 15 to 20 candidates will likely participate.

Among those candidates are Chuck Hopson, Travis Clardy and Tony Sevilla for state representative; Robert Nichols and Tammy Blair for state senate; Earl Socia for Precinct 1 commissioner (incumbent Kelly Traylor will be out of town at a job-related conference); Katherine Pinotti, Patrick Reagan and Jesse Hooker for Precinct 3 commissioner; Linda Little for tax assessor; Eddie Lee and James Stewart for Precinct 3 constable; Jamie Beene for Precinct 4 constable; William Wilder for county attorney; and Jean Brewer for Republican Party County Chairman.

This is “to give the public the chance to come and hear what the different candidates have to say so they get to know who they are,” Morris has said.

Each speaker will be able to give a two-minute introduction, where they can describe who they are and why they are running.

Questions will then be posed by moderator Michele Reese of KYTX CBS19, and candidates will have 30 seconds to respond.

“They will have to think fast, and there are no pointed questions,” Morris said last week.
The debate will end with one-minute long closing statements from each candidate.

“We hope we can get all the different candidates for one office together and hear directly from them what their plans are,” Morris has said. “Instead of recognizing a name, we can actually vote for the ideas behind a person. It gives the public a chance to see which candidate they like and work for that candidate if they want them elected.”

The event is free and open to the public.
