Senior Moments And Salad Bars
Art and I have worked together for more than 20 years. We have one of those deals where we have figured out what the other one is thinking. It works for us.
We're almost a matched pair. Both of us are north of 6-foot-3 and one of us is still north of 265 pounds. Stay tuned for updates on that one. One of us is older than the other, but we've made a great go of things for a long time now.
Lunch is my time to connect with people. More often than not these days you can see us at the salad bar at Jason's or eating leafy things at Newk's or The Eatery.

A couple of weeks back, we went to Jason's for one of those usual Mondays, and when we left the restaurant it had started to rain. We got into the car and paused. Something was different about my seat. The floor mats even seemed different. Looking at Art, I puzzled and said, “Are we in the right car?”
He looked in the back seat and said “No!” as we both opened doors and hustled three spaces over to another white Toyota Avalon that we verified was his. We both had a good laugh at our “senior moment.” The car we got in had Louisiana plates. Who knows, we could have been smack in the middle of some hot boudin and cold cous cous or some other nefarious Cajun intrigue. In fact we wondered if the owner of the other Avalon had seen the two of us getting in their car and what they must have thought.
“Was it a couple of offensive linemen from the Cowboys who had wandered away from the metroplex?

“Was it a couple of offensive linemen from the Cowboys who had wandered away from the metroplex?
Was it Vinny and Guido paying me a visit?
Had I paid all the bills?
Was my husband betting on games again?”
They were probably just enjoying a muffaletta at Jason's minding their own business. Whatever, they must have thought we chuckled every time we relived the “moment.”
The Super Bowl is today, and frankly I'm having a hard time even getting excited about the commercials. It could be because of my ongoing diet. There will be nothing I can eat at the party, but seeing friends there will make up for any other shortcomings of the day.
The next meeting of the B.U.N.S. book club is at 3 p.m Feb. 26. at Barnes & Noble. The selection is “Killer Angels” by Michael Sharra. Please join us for what we hope will be a fun time even though we will be discussing a book about war, death and the internal destruction of a young nation. Perhaps I should see if Fisbo the clown has an opening in his schedule. It also begs the question whether you should serve tea and scones at such a gathering or just pass out hankies and Prozac? Come join us if you dare.
